Don’t Jump the Shark, Jimmy!

First of all, God has surely blessed the great amount of good work done by Catholic Answers over the years, including that of Mr. Jimmy Akin. Souls have doubtless been saved as a result of the work of that company.

However, CA has a strange fascination with upholding Islam as honoring the true God (almost as much as does the USCCB), and frequently publish bits designed to convince others that it’s bad faith to hold otherwise. How peculiar!

So, in this case, we can’t help but poke a little fun… because Mr. Akin recently posted an oddity so amusing that it might just qualify as “jumping the shark.”

Starting the boat: “The notion that Muslims don’t worship God is a fundamentalist Protestant concept.”

Really? Tell that to Thomas Aquinas and the other Catholic saints who denounced Islam through the centuries as a false religion, with a false deity and a false prophet… many of them writing long before Protestantism ever appeared.

Making the jump: “Some Protestants [falsely?] claim that Muslims worship a different God from that of Christians—and, get this: some rascally traditionalist Catholics think the same thing!”

First of all, as any Muslim will tell you, Allah has dogmatically excluded all possibility of his own existence as a Trinity of persons, and has required that his followers repudiate the very notion of his Incarnation. Such would make this Allah personage not the true God, would it not? After all, God cannot contradict Himself.

Such being the case, not only “traditionalist Catholics” but all Catholics ought to reject Allah as a false deity—as saints, popes, and bishops before us have done.

Shoot, even a robot catechism can figure this out.

Thank you for all your good work, Jimmy… but when it comes to jumping the shark of Islam, best stay out of the water!
